WWI CENTENARY EVENTS

WWII COMMEMORATIVE CEREMONIES

FRANCE-BELGIUM-ENGLAND

It just so happens the day that I am working on this page is Memorial Day. Parades, gatherings and honors to those who serve and served is what this one day has become.  But if you were a European, events and past wars are not just honored one day per year but always.

Very few military cemetaries in the US other than Arlington have the reverance and care taken that is seen at thousands of cemetaries throughout Britain, France, Belgium, Germany and all throughout Europe.  We personally have been moved at the respect held for the dead unlike anything I've seen in the US.  Yes, we honor our fallen without question, but it seems that we always need a holiday here to remind of us that unless of course you are a military family.

This year events, research projects and commemorative ceremonies will be taking place during the four years of 2014 to 2018, marking the 100th anniversary of the First World War. This page is intended to offer information and links to events, websites and projects which are making special arrangements to mark the centenary.

Having visited numerous battlefields and cemetaries in France and Belgium we have grown to appreciate how Europeans continue to keep up these monuments and sites as always remember the struggles of death and war and how it devastated their lands.

Below are numerous links to many events to commence during 2014 and beyond.
